Our Story

Dr. Stephanie Hart, MD CCFP

Starting out as a rural, full-service family doctor, I never had time to talk about sex with patients. It took too long to overcome embarrassment - both theirs and mine - and counselling took even longer. Questions about sexual function are never simple. So I, like many family doctors I know, just didn’t ask.

This ‘don’t ask, don’t tell’ policy left patients with pain, low desire, or other problems vulnerable to misinformation, pseudoscience, and a lot of relationship problems because they had no one reliable to turn to for help.

I’ve rearranged my practice now to give me the time necessary to dedicate to sexual function concerns. An initial visit takes 60-90 minutes, and follow up visits depend on the needs of the particular patient. Dedicating my office practice to sexual health means I’m not embarrassed anymore - and you don’t have to be, either. And the best part is that it is covered by Alberta Health.
